Great Britain beat Greece 19-2 on Friday morning at the European Championship in Hoofddorp. With the win in the consolation round Great Britain clinched a spot in the A-Pool of the 2018 European Championship. A pair of seven-run innings decided the outcome early and blew the score wide open. Greece actually had a 2-0 lead after the first, but didn’t score afterwards.
Richard Klijn, Chris Berset and Nate Thomas hit home runs for the British squad. Thomas had an inside the parker. He drove in four runs overall. Zach Wiley scored three times. Klijn was 4-for-6 on the day.
On the mound Matthew Maitland pitched a pair of scoreless frames in relief to pick up the win. Daniel Cooper and Phil Owen had kept Greece to two runs in the first five innings. Dimitrios Kourtis surrendered ten runs on 12 hits in 3 1/3 innings to take the loss. At the plate Kourtis went 3-for-3 with a RBI.
