Preview and Prediction Belgian Baseball Final

Posted on September 1, 2007September 1, 2007 by MrBB

Merksem Royal Greys (24-4) vs Mortsel Stars (20-8)

The Royal Greys will enter the finals riding an eight-game winning streak and sports a 48-7 record over the last two years. Defeated the Hoboken Pioniers 3 games to 1 to claim 2006 national championship. Mortsel eliminated the Brasschaat Braves in three games to reach title series.

Scouting Report #1: Merksem will rely heavily on ace pitcher Terence ANTONACCI and are the overwhelming favorites to claim another title. Blanked the Pioniers twice in semi-finals and have allowed only a single run in their past six contests including five shutouts.

Scouting Report #2: The Stars ended the regular season on a roll going 8-2 in their final 10 games. Dropped two games to Merksem in April but answered with June sweep including a 20-0 romp. Three wins away from national title after finishing under .500 (12-13) in 2006.

Prediction: Both teams are playing solid baseball and the Stars summer thrashing in June eliminates the intimidation factor that Merksem usually enjoys on home soil. However, will Mortsel be satisfied with just reaching the big one? Look for the Royals Greys to claim another championship with a 3 to 1 series win.
