Italy beat the Czech Republic 9-1 on the last day of the Italian Baseball Week on Tuesday. It was their first win in the tournament. They still had to settle for third place in the final standings behind winner Czech Republic and Spain.

On Tuesday in Florence Marco Sabbatani gave Italy a 1-0 lead in the second with a RBI single. One frame later Erik Epifano drove in two to raise the advantage to three runs. Sebastiano Poma added a RBI single in the sixth. Five runs in the bottom of the seventh blew the score open. The rally was highlighted by a two-run double by Alessandro Vaglio. In the top of the seventh Jakub Vojak homered for Czech’s lone run.

On the mound Jose Escalona, Ludovico Coveri, Filippo Crepaldi, Fraylin Florian, Junior Oberto and Nick Pugliese pitched for Italy, allowing just four hits in the game. Michal Sobotka, Ondrej Satoria, Svatoslav Kraut and Jan Tomek shared the workload for the Czech Republic.
