Posted on August 19, 2016August 19, 2016 by philipp

The semi-final round robin in the Dutch Hoofdklasse continued on Thursday with two games. The Vaessen Pioniers shut out Curacao Neptunus Rotterdam 2-0 behind a gem of former minor leaguer Lars Huijer. He out-dueled Dutch national teammate Diegomar Markwell by allowing just five hits and a walk in nine scoreless innings. Markwell issued four hits, two runs and four base on balls in also nine frames. A pair of sac flies by Quintin de Cuba and Mervin Gario in the fourth and sixth were the difference.

In the second matchup Kinheim stunned L&D Amsterdam with a 5-3 victory. Dudley Leonora broke a 3-3 tie with a two-run single in the top of the seventh. Kenny Berkenbosch’s RBI-Double had tied the contest for Amsterdam in the fifth. Luis Figueroa Roman conceded six hits, three runs and three walks in six innings for the win. Tom Stuifbergen pitched the last two frames to close it out. Dennis Burgersdijk got charged with the loss, giving up seven hits, four runs (3 ER) and two base on balls in six-plus innings.
