Germany has won the U12 European Championship in Trebic, Czech Republic. The team of head coach Georg Bull captured the title at their first participation at the tournament in history with a 9-2 win over host Czech Republic on Saturday afternoon. For the German Baseball and Softball Federation (DBV) it’s their second international title after the U15 European Championship in 2015. Russia finished in third place after a 20-6 win over Austria in the Bronze Medal Game.
Gold Medal Game: Germany – Czech Republic 9-2
Germany erased an early 0-1 deficit with a three-run rally in the bottom of the first and then continued to build up the score for an easy 9-2 win over defending champion Czech Republic in the final on Saturday. Yannic Walther dominated at the plate by going 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, three runs scored and three RBI. Tristan Russel struck out seven in four innings to pick up the win. Lukas Hurta got charged with the loss.
Bronze Medal Game: Austria – Russia 6-20 (5)
Russia has won the bronze medal at the U12 European Championship with a 20-6 win over Austria. Russia was on fire early on and built up a quick 8-0 lead after two frames. However Austria fought back and cut the deficit to three runs after the third. However a Russian nine-run rally in the fourth ended all hopes for a comeback. Seven players of Russia scored multiple times in the game. Georgii Vavilov earned the win. Dan Kawanishi took the loss.
Game for 5th Place: France – Belarus 16-6 (5)
France is finishing in fifth place at the U12 European Championship after a 16-6 win over Belarus. Eight runs combined in the first two and eight more in the fourth and fifth ended the game due to ten-run rule. Tanguy Meurant and Thomas Demory had four hits apiece, scoring seven of the 16 runs and combined to drive in six. Joshua Rene hit a home run for France. Demory also pitched three innings in relief for the win. Aliaksandr Shostka took the loss.
Game for 7th Place: Romania – Slovakia 16-6 (5)
Romania scored 14 of its 16 runs in a 16-6 win over Slovakia in the first three innings. Slovakia was able to cut the deficit to 4-11 in the third, but it was too little too late. Romania finished in seventh place in the final standings with the victory. Cristian Mihai Deaca earned the win. Samuel Kolar got charged with the loss.
Game for 9th Place: Lithuania – Poland 12-0 (5)
Lithuania is finishing in ninth place at the U12 European Championship in Trebic after defeating Poland 12-0 on Saturday morning. An eight-run first inning decided the outcome early. Poland settled in afterwards defensive wise, but wasn’t able to score. Dovydas Zakaras pitched a complete game shutout, issuing only two hits and two walks in five scoreless innings. He struck out eight. At the plate Audrius Rascius and Titas Vaitkevicius had two hits, two runs and two RBI apiece. Tomasz Karpinski and Kacper Dziedzic had both hits for Poland. Karpinski also got charged with the loss, giving up eight unearned runs on five hits and two base on balls in the first.
