Prague Baseball Week: International Stars win Trophy behind Wes Roemer’s gem

Posted on July 2, 2016 by philipp

For the third time in the last four years the International Stars have won the Prague Baseball Week. They shut out the Czech National Team 5-0 in the finals on Saturday evening to clinch first place in the final standings. Wes Roemer of the Heidenheim Heidekoepfe went the distance, allowing seven hits and a walk in nine innings. He struck out eight and threw 84 of his 115 pitches for strikes.

On offense the International Stars took a 2-0 lead in the fifth and cemented the win with three more in the ninth. Cologne Cardinals’ players Taylor Ratliff with two runs and two RBI, as well as Jack Shannon with four hits and a run led the Stars at the plate. Radim Chroust took the loss, conceding five hits and two runs in five frames.

The Czech Republic had reached the finals as the first-ranked team after the preliminary phase. The International Stars beat the Drop Bears in the semi-finals 2-0 earlier on the day with Draci Brno’s Jason Jarvis pitching a complete game shutout.
