Mortsel Stars & Merksem Royal Greys reach Belguim Baseball Finals

Posted on August 29, 2007August 29, 2007 by MrBB

The Mortsel Stars advanced to the Belgium Baseball League finals with a 5-2 win over the Brasschaat Braves this past weekend in Game 3 of their semi-final playoff series. The Stars will battle the Merksem Royal Greys for the national championship.

The Stars (20-8) claimed an 8-1 victory in Game 1 two weeks ago before Brasschaat won a 9-7 thriller at home in Game 2 the following day. Merksem blanked the Hoboken Pioneers 4-0 and 8-0 to advance to their second straight league championship series.

The Royal Greys (24-4) defeated the Pioneers in last year’s finals and will be the favorites to capture another title. However, the Stars have won the last two meetings, 9-3 and 20-0, between the two teams. Merksem won the first two matchups in late April by the scores of 10-4 and 3-2.

Mr. Baseball will provide a preview of the Belgium Baseball League later this week.
