The Canberra Cavalry and the Brisbane Bandits continue to dominate the headlines in the early phase of the 2015/2016 season in the Australian Baseball League. Canberra capped off another series win with a walk-off win over the Sydney Blue Sox on Sunday. With three more wins in four games they solidified their 9-3 record at the top of the standings.
Meanwhile Brisbane won three of four against last year’s champion Perth Heat and now has won eight of its last ten games. They are trailing the Cavalry only by a single game.
In the third series the Adelaide Bite won three of four against the Melbourne Aces. Melbourne’s lone win was an epic 15-inning thriller on Saturday, which was decided by a RBI fielder’s choice by Trey Vavra in the top of the sixth extra inning. Both teams had scored twice in the 11th with Adelaide tying the game on a two-run shot by Kyle Petty in the bottom half of that frame.
Germany’s Jan-Niclas Stoecklin once again started for the Blue Sox, but also again was replaced after four innings. He issued two hits, a run and three walks, while striking out four. His ERA stands at 3.86 for the season after his third consecutive no-decision.
