The Mannheim Tornados are able to celebrate a national title in their 40th anniversary season after all. On Saturday the Tornados defeated the Neunkirchen Nightmares 8-4 in the final of the Deutschlandpokal. It’s the first time that they won the German Cup and therefore qualified for the European Cup Winners Cup next season.
A four-run sixth inning secured the victory for Mannheim. Mona Hoerner and Lori Spingola pathed the way from the pitcher’s circle. The Tornados had reached the final through wins over the Freising Grizzlies, Haar Disciples and Hamburg Knights. Neunkirchen reached the final through the defeat in the German Softball-Bundesliga Finals against the Wesseling Vermins a week ago.
