L&D Amsterdam claimed first place in the first round of the regular season of the Dutch Hoofdklasse, clinching a spot in the semi-finals. In a make-up game of an earlier rainout they defeated Curacao Neptunus Rotterdam 6-2 on Tuesday evening.
With a loss the Pirates would have dropped behind Corendon Kinheim in the first-half standings. Curacao Neptunus already had secured a playoff spot. The remaining two semifinalists will be determined in the second half of the regular season, which already started last weekend.
In the game on Tuesday Rob Cordemans threw seven scoreless innings to lead Amsterdam to the win. He issued just five hits and two walks with Daan Hendrix pitching in and out of trouble in the last two frames.
On offense Amsterdam scored three runs in the first three frames and three alone in the fifth to decide the outcome early. Kenny Berkenbosch and Remco Draijer combined for four hits and five RBI. Berkenbosch and Michael Duursma scored twice. Stijn van der Meer and Dwayne Kemp scored the two runs for Rotterdam in the eighth.
