Box score

At the 2015 European Cup in Chartres and Paris, France Unipol Bologna celebrated the title. The reigning Italian Baseball League champion defeated L&D Amsterdam Pirates 2-1 in the final on Sunday afternoon at Stade Pershing in Paris.

All the scoring already was done after the second frame. Bologna scored twice in the opening period thanks to a two-run single by Guillermo Rodriguez. Bas Nooij scored on a passed ball in the second to cut the deficit to a run. Amsterdam loaded the bases with one out, but Michael Duursma grounded into a double play to end the rally.

The Pirates produced a couple of base runners in the coming innings, but weren’t able to come around again. Marquis Fleming and relievers Justin Cicatello and Nick Pugliese proved to be too strong for the Dutch vice champion. Fleming earned the win, allowing three hits, a run and six walks in six innings, while striking out seven.

Amsterdam’s starter Kevin Heijstek did a great job after the first, but still ended with the loss. The Dutch national teamer gave up six hits, two runs (1 ER) and two base on balls in eight innings.

During the medal ceremony Guillermo Rodriguez of Unipol Bologna was named Most Valuable Player. Teammate Alessandro Vaglio received the Best Batter award, Rob Cordemans of L&D Amsterdam the trophy for the Best Pitcher.
