The Stockholm Monarchs edged out the Swedish Academy 2-1 on Tuesday in the Swedish Elitserien. Matt Merrifield and Pontus Byström scored in the bottom of the seventh inning to turn a 0-1 deficit into a 2-1 win. Elvis Hammarstedt had scored in the top of the same frame to give the Academy a short-lived advantage. He also took the loss, allowing two unearned runs on two walks in four otherwise no-hit innings. Stockholm managed just one hit against the pitching of Hammarstedt and earlier Jakob Syren. Oscar Carlstedt struck out nine in six scoreless two-hit innings for Stockholm.
