Zach will work across the entire GB Baseball Programme to develop a high quality pitching curriculum.

Great Britain Baseball is happy to announce the appointment of Pitching Coordinator, Zach Graefser. Zach will work across the entire GB Baseball Programme to develop a high quality pitching curriculum. Zach will also join the staff of the GB Senior Team alongside Head Coach, Liam Carroll.

Zach Graefser

Zach is from St. Louis, Missouri and has previously been the Assistant Head Coach of the baseball programme at St. Louis Community College at Meramec (notable college alumni include current St Louis Cardinals third baseman, David Freese). Zach also taught at St. Louis Baseball and Fastpitch Academy, has worked with professional pitchers and catchers in their offseason and was recently appointed as an Envoy Coach for Major League Baseball to coach at camps and academies across Europe this year.

“Zach is one of the most talented coaches I have met since joining the GB programme in 1996,” said Liam Carroll, Team GB Head Coach. “His knowledge and body of work are exceptional and his commitment to success is off the charts. Combined with his experience and connections at the collegiate and professional levels, I am incredibly excited for not only our pitchers, but for all players in our programme and every coach in the country to learn from him.”

As Assistant Head Coach at St. Louis Community College, Zach’s primary responsibilities included serving as the team’s pitching and catching coach as well as assisting in recruiting and team logistics.  Zach has had the honour to coach with and under Scott Goodrich and Tony Dattoli, who both have won conference coach of the year accolades.  In his eight years coaching at Meramec Zach’s pitching staff played a part in eight consecutive winning seasons for the Archers, and in several seasons they were rated among the Top 10 in the country in multiple categories including ERA and opponent batting average. A number of the players Zach has coached have moved on to play professional baseball.

Zach also taught individual lessons at St. Louis Baseball and Fastpitch Academy, developing both baseball and softball players alike.  His students have received scholarships to multiple collegiate levels in both sports.

Zach has Bachelors and Masters degrees in Sport Management from Missouri Baptist University, and lives in St. Albans, Hertfordshire, with his wife Christy.
