The Royal Spanish Baseball and Softball Federation (RFEBS) announced on Monday that they and National Team manager Mauro Mazzotti are parting ways. Following the European Championship both sides talked about the future of the Spanish national team program and didn’t find common ground.
The Spanish Federation thanked Mazzotti for his devotion and dedication during the six years they worked together. Highlights were a pair of third-place finishes at the European Championships in 2012 and 2014 and the qualification and the participation at the main event of the World Baseball Classic in 2013.
The 55-year-old Mazzotti has played and coached at the top level in Italian baseball. Since 2011 he is the General Manager of T&A San Marino. As a GM/Manager he has led four different clubs to seven Italian championships and three European Cups. In 2010 IBAF named him coach of the year, in 2012 the EBCA. Twice he was the Italian coach of the year. After stints with the Seattle Mariners and the Houston Astros he is a European Scouting Consultant for the Baltimore Orioles since 2013.
