Posted on November 13, 2014 by philipp

The Sydney Blue Sox opened week three in the Australian Baseball League with a 2-0 shutout over the Canberra Cavalry. Craig Anderson allowed just four hits and two walks in a complete game effort. He struck out six and threw 73 of his 109 pitches for strikes. Brian Grening was on the other end of the pitcher’s duel taking the loss after seven strong innings. Alex Howe and Ray Frias scored the two runs for the Blue Sox.

The Melbourne Aces held on to a 7-6 nail-biter over the Brisbane Bandits for their second win of the season. Melbourne scored all seven runs between the third and the sixth. Brisbane tried to come back in the ninth, but after scoring two runs Aces closer Ben Henry recovered and got the last out. Kellin Deglan homered twice and drove in four for Melbourne. Josh Davies (MEL) and CJ Beatty (BRI) also went deep.

The Perth Heat improved to 3-2 in the season with a 6-0 shutout over the Adelaide Bite. Brian Baker and Jorge Marban combined to issue just one hit and a walk in nine dominant innings. Mitch Dening’s double in the fourth was their lone big mistake. Brian Pointer, Tim Smith and Taishi Nakagawa hit home runs for Perth. Matthew Williams took the loss.
