Press Release Finnish Baseball and Softball Federation
Baseball Finland will participate this Sunday in the “Dethroning Violence” (Väkivallankumous) event arranged by several youth outreach programs. The event will take place at the Roihuvuori Pesäpallo field in eastern Helsinki from 12 noon to 6pm. This movement was born in the aftermath of violent acts against innocent young people in eastern Helsinki in 2014.
The opening event is a friendly tournament of Pesäpallo (Finnish baseball), which will take place at 12 noon on the Roihuvuori sports field. In addition to young people, several prominent Finnish figures will participate in the match. Baseball Finland will have its batting cage and pitching set up for everyone to try.
We want our streets and cities to be safer – for everyone. We are searching and developing interactive and communal methods to prevent social malaise and increase well-being and welfare.
Partners of the movement include The Youth Centre of Helsinki, Children of the Station, Superpesis (Finland’s top Pesäpallo league for both men and women), local Pesäpallo club Roihuvuoren Roihu, Restaurant LeBonk and many others.
The revenue from the event’s voluntary participation fees and cafeteria and by-product sales will be channeled to Children of the Station and their anti-violent youth work on the street. All in all, there are about 200 people organizing “Dethroning Violence” and the baseball tournament, most of them volunteers.
