Buchbinder Legionaere receive Grant to start building new Baseball Boarding School, 2nd Field

Posted on July 31, 2014July 31, 2014 by philipp

The Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg announced last week that they are receiving a €890,000 grant from the city of Regensburg for their new construction project. It is the last piece of the puzzle and the club can start building a new facility at the Armin-Wolf-Arena with offices and their baseball boarding school. The project also includes a gym, clubhouse and a second field.

Since October 2012 the Buchbinder Legionaere are working on the project, which has an overall budget of €7.6 million. The club itself took a 30-year loan over €3.7 million. The rest gets financed through grants of the city of Regensburg and the Bavarian Sports Federation. Groundbreaking is scheduled for September 2014, completion for February of 2016.

The boarding school will have space for 30 athletes, 20 baseball players and 10 from other sports. Currently 27 athletes are situated in a temporary dormitory nearby. Besides the new building, which will be in left field of the Armin-Wolf-Arena, a new baseball field will be erected, which includes a soccer pitch in the outfield.

The Armin-Wolf-Arena was opened in 1998 and renovated for the 2009 Baseball World Cup. Besides several European Cups for club teams it also hosted one of four 2012 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers and will be a first-round site at the upcoming European Championship in September.
