The Dutch Hoofdklasse Softball opened the 2014 season this past weekend with ten games. On Saturday four teams celebrated sweeps. One day later the Dutch Juniors won twice over the Centrals.
Terrasvogels received a pair of strong pitching performances in 7-0 and 5-0 shutouts over DSS. In game one Femke van Dusschoten struck out nine in five scoreless one-hit innings. In game two Ginger de Weert had 12 Ks in seven three-hit, one-walk frames.
Sparks Haarlem meanwhile scored a whopping 36 runs in two lopsided victories over the Gryphons. Chantal Versluis, Nathalie Gosewehr and Areke Spel hit two home runs apiece in the doubleheader.
