The Spanish Division de Honor Baseball opened the 2014 season with four doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday. Defending champion Tenerife Marlins returned home to the Canary Islands with a pair of 5-0 and 5-3 victories against Baseball Navarra. Leslie Nacar pitched a three-hit shutout in game one. Lesther Galvan homered. In game two Tenerife needed two runs in the top of the tenth to escape with a win. Navarra had tied the contest in the ninth.
CD Pamplona meanwhile dominated El Llano 11-3 and 11-1. Javier Flores collected four hits, two runs and three RBI in game one. Alexis Fumero pitched 8 1/3 solid innings for the win. Gabriel Guerrero had three hits, three runs and two RBI in the second match. Eneko Del Burko issued one run in 7 1/3 innings for the win. Jacob Trinidad and Miguel Rizo received the losses for Gijon.
The other two matchups ended with splits. San Inazio Bilbao and CB Sant Boi shared wins. In game one Sant Boi scored four runs in the first and two in the ninth for a 6-4 victory. Zael Honora got the win, allowing six hits, four runs (3 ER) and six walks in 8 2/3 innings. Franklin Tavarez had three hits in his return to the Division de Honor. In game two San Inazio prevailed 3-2 in ten innings. Juan Jose Lopez struck out ten in six innings and scored the winning run in the first extra inning. Daniel Matias had ten Ks for Sant Boi.
CB Barcelona and the Astros Valencia also split. In game one the Astros celebrated an 8-2 victory. They got the lead in the second and scored five runs between the fifth and the seventh to run away with the win. Mathew Erickson struck out five in six innings to pick up the win. Luis Suarez and Daisuke Ikenaga combined for 11 strikeouts for Barcelona. Game two looked like another win for Valencia, but CBB countered with five runs in the eighth to prevail 6-3. Jorge Dieguez had three RBI.
