Baseball and Softball Leagues in Spain open 2014 Season in Europe

Posted on March 14, 2014March 13, 2014 by philipp

Traditionally Spain is opening the new season in European Baseball and Softball first. This weekend the Divisions de Honor in Baseball and Softball will kick off the new year. Nine baseball teams and eight softball teams will battle for the crown.

The Tenerife Marlins enter the 2014 campaign as defending champion. However CB Barcelona, CBS Sant Boi and a reported heavily reinforced San Inazio Bilbao try to challenge the reigning title holder. On the first game day El Llano is hosting CD Pamplona in Gijon, Baseball Navarra takes on Tenerife, Barcelona squares up with the Astros Valencia and Bilbao faces Sant Boi. CB Viladecans will be off this week.

Schedule:
Saturday, March 15, 2014:

  • 12:00 Baseball Navarra – Tenerife Marlins (DH)
  • 15:30 San Inazio Bilbao – CBS Sant Boi (DH)

Sunday, March 16, 2014:

  • 10:30 El Llano – CD Pamplona (DH)
  • 12:00 CB Barcelona – Astros Valencia (DH)

In Softball CBS Sant Boi is the team to beat. They defeated Kirolgi OBB 3-0 in the best-of-five final series last summer. This year the format was changed slightly. In the first phase of the regular season teams are split into two pools of four. In Pool A Sant Boi, CS Fenix Valencia, Atletico San Sebastian and Dridma Rivas CdD are slotted. Pool B consists of CB Viladecans, Kirolgi, CBS Antorcha and Project S. Galvanenc. Four doubleheaders will be played on Sunday.
