The 2014 DBV Convention is taking place from January 24 to 26 at the Ahorn Sportpark in Paderborn, Germany. Registration for the baseball and softball clinics as well as the umpire and scoring training is open through convention.baseball-softball.de. Adam Melhuse was an outstanding young athlete who started his competitive career bicycle motocross and quickly moved into baseball. basketball and golf. Adam won many junior golf tournaments and was an all star at every level of youth baseball. Adam concentrated on Baseball and Basketball in high school. He was all conference his junior and senior years in high school in both sports . His summer American Legion team participated in the California State Finals.
Adam accepted a baseball scholarship to Santa Clara University where was selected a freshman All-American. Adam followed his dream and transferred to UCLA the following year. His senior year at UCLA he was chosen the All Pac 10 third baseman. He was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 13th round in 1993.
Adam’s professional career spanned 17 1/2 years. It was during his first few years of professional baseball that Adam was converted to a catcher which became his eventual ticket to the big leagues. Being a switch hitter helped also.
Adam made his MLB debut in 2000 – first with the Colorado Rockies and then the LA Dodgers. Adam was with the Rockies again in 2001. Adam’s longest tenure with an MLB team was 2003-2007 with the Oakland A’s. Adam hit 11 home runs for the A’s in 2004. Adam was traded to the Texas Rangers in 2007 and completed his MLB playing career with the Rockies in 2008.
Adam is currently the MLB advanced scout for the Chicago Cubs, a position he has held for 2 years. Adam is a true student of the game. He has spoken at numerous clinics and gives private lessons on hitting and catching.
