The Uni President Lions eliminated the first European team in the Asia Series from the tournament with a 10-0 shutout on Saturday at Intercontinental Stadium in Taichung. Bologna’s starting pitcher Giancarlo Alvarado (1.1 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 3 BB) couldn’t repeat his performance from the 2013 World Baseball Classic and was chased from the game in the second inning with Fortitudo trailing 0-4.

The offensive shutdown didn’t help either, as only Daniele Malengo and Alessandro Vaglio had Fortitudo’s lone hits. C.H. Lin, F.H. Liu and Y.C. Chen had two RBI apiece for the reigning CPBL champion. C.M. Wang allowed just two hits and a walk in five scoreless innings. W.Y. Liao closed out the shutout.

The Uni President Lions will take on the Samsung Lions on Sunday in a matchup of CPBL and KBO champions. All games are broadcasted live on YouTube.
