T&A San Marino has won the Italian Baseball League championship for a third year in a row, matching the feat of Europhon Milano (1966-68) and Simmenthal Nettuno (1963-65). They completed their comeback in the Italian Baseball Series against Rimini with a 4-1 victory on Sunday evening. Rimini had won the first two games of the best-of-five series last weekend, but San Marino answered with three straight wins to capture the title.

Jim Magrane, who already threw 108 pitches in a win on Friday, led the Titans again. He went seven innings, allowing just two hits and three walks. Joe Mazzuca broke the scoreless tie with a solo home run in the second. A RBI singles by Simone Albanese in the sixth and ninth as well as his run following a wild pitch in the ninth provided insurance.

The Pirates didn’t score until Mario Chiarini’s RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. Enorbel Marquez received the starting nod for Rimini. The German national teamer didn’t disappoint pitching a second time in three days as well. He still got charged with the loss, giving up five hits, two runs and five base on balls in six frames, striking out seven.
