TAICHUNG. The first day at the XXVI 18U Baseball World Cup in Taichung got rained out. Six games were on the schedule on Friday, all six of them couldn’t be played due to the inclement weather in the region thanks to tropical storm Kong-Rey. The six games will be made up at a later date in the tournament. An announcement will be made in the next couple of days.
Organizers and teams now will make another try to commence the competition with the top twelve 18U national teams on Saturday. Six games are on the schedule. In the afternoon host Chinese Taipei faces Canada in a matchup of last year’s bronze and silver medalists. Also USA squares off with Korea and Mexico takes on the Czech Republic. In the evening Japan clashes with Venezuela, Cuba plays against Colombia and Italy is up to task against Australia.
However since there is still rain in the forecast for the coming days, the tournament could see further schedule changes. Check the official website www.18ubaseballworldcup.org regularly for updates.
