Giampiero Faraone new Manager in Nettuno

Posted on November 18, 2008 by philipp

The Italian vice champion the past two years, DANESI NETTUNO, finally found a successor for Roger Bagialemani at the helm. They bring back Giampiero Faraone as manager of the club to guide them to the first championship since 2001. Under Bagialemani they reached the Italian Series three times the past seven years, but never brought home a 18th national title. This summer they finished second in the European Cup in Regensburg and later went on to win the inaugural edition of the European Cup Final Four in Barcelona. However they failed to get the big price, when they lost to T&A SAN MARINO in seven games in the Italian Championship Series. Afterwards Bagialemani resigned from his post. Some indicated that there was some friction between the team and the manager.

The 69-year-old Faraone played for NETTUNO between 1961 and 1978. After his career as a player he went into coaching and managed the club in the past, the last time in 2001, when they won the national championship against RIMINI. In recent years he worked with the Italian National Team, before being succeeded by Marco Mazzieri after the disappointing seventh place at the 2007 European Championships in Barcelona.

Besides Faraone, Manuel Cortina returns also to DANESI, as the new pitching coach. Both worked together numerous times in the past. They will decide about the rest of the coaching staff in the next couple of days and are going to work on the roster for the 2009 season too. They are searching a new catcher, as Vincent Parisi is leaving NETTUNO. They are interested in Manuel Gasparri from BOLOGNA to take the position behind the plate.
