German DBA Players represent Europe well at Big League, COLT and PONY World Series

Posted on August 11, 2013August 11, 2013 by philipp

Players from the German Baseball Academy (DBA, Deutsche Baseballakademie) are representing European Baseball well in the United States right now. It all started with the Europe-Africa region winners at the Big League Baseball World Series in Easley, South Carolina, where they defeated Canada and lost to Asia-Pacific, Mexico and Latin America. The team (complete roster) included Marcel Schulz, Luis Santa Cruz (both Untouchables Paderborn), Anton Helmig (Mannheim Tornados) and Dennis Hudson (Stuttgart Reds) among others.

The DBA tour of World Series tournaments continued in the beginning of August with the COLT World Series in Lafayette, Indiana. The team (complete roster) with Julius Reitemeier (Mainz Athletics), Benjamin Thaqi (Untouchables Paderborn) und Elias von Garßen (Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg) among others they won their opener against Hoosier North (Indiana), but lost to Caguas (Puerto Rico) and Los Mochis (Mexico) to get eliminated. Caguas went on to the final, where they lost to Los Gatos (California).

On Friday part three of the tour got underway with the PONY World Series in Washington, Pennsylvania. And the DBA team (complete roster) once again celebrated a successful start. They defeated host Washington 8-1. Most of the players were part of a third-place finish at the European U15 Championship in Nyköping earlier this summer and now hope to crown their season.

PONY and COLT World Series squads of the DBA had won the European qualifiers in Prague in Spring to qualify for the United States. The Big Leaguers won against the Netherlands at the Qualifier in Stuttgart at the end of June.
