In the German Baseball-Bundesliga the Solingen Alligators suffered their second loss of the season on Saturday, when they stumbled in the ninth inning of game one against the HSV Stealers. A two-run walk-off triple by Michael Kujoth gave Hamburg a much-needed win. Solingen bounced back thanks to Travis Bass’ heroics in game two.
In a duel between teams in second and third in the northern standings, the Untouchables Paderborn and the Bonn Capitals settled for a split on Sunday. In game one Paderborn scored the game-winner in the top of the ninth when Luis Santa Cruz crossed the plate. In the second match the Capitals were led by three hits and five RBI by Lennart Weller to pick up the win.
The Cologne Cardinals completed a sweep over the Dortmund Wanderers with a 14-inning thriller in game two. Mika Kehls drove in the game-winner in the fifth extra-inning. He also struck out the side in the bottom half of the frame, capping a brilliant relief outing.
In Berlin the Dohren Wild Farmers downed the Berlin Sluggers twice. In the second match the Sluggers were on the verge of their second win of the season, leading 4-1 with two outs in the eighth. But Dohren plated somehow eight runs in that frame and improved their record to 8-8, tying Hamburg in the standings.
Not much drama in the southern division. Leader Mainz Athletics celebrated a pair of easy wins over the Tubingen Hawks. The Haar Disciples rode a couple of home runs to two victories against the Bad Homburg Hornets. The Stuttgart Reds and Heidenheim Heidekoepfe split a twin bill.
