Official Groundbreaking for revamped Ballpark in Regensburg

Posted on November 13, 2008November 13, 2008 by philipp

This summer Regensburg, Germany received the nod to host one of the five preliminary round pools at next year’s Baseball World Cup in Europe. Today the official groundbreaking for the renovation of the Armin Wolf Arena takes place. Mayor Hans Schaidinger is on hand to kick off the building process in a small ceremony. Besides the German National Team, Team USA, Venezuela and China will be in group E.

The work already has begun in the last couple of weeks to prepare the venue site for the upcoming months of hard work. They are going to build new service facilities, clubhouses, extend the stands for up to 10.000 people, a lighting system with international standards, a new scoreboard and a refurbished turf with new outfield walls. Overall the costs are about 1.4 Million Euros. The players Alex Lauterbach, Ludwig Glaser and Donald Lutz in addition to several more members of the BUCHBINDER LEGIONAERE are directly involved in the building process.

Check out a short clip from a local TV station, which reported from the construction site or watch the YouTube clip down below. A picture gallery is available on Legionaere.de.
