American infielder Andrew Smith, named Best Batter in the southern division of the German Baseball-Bundesliga in 2012, is back with the Heidenheim Heidekoepfe. The club didn’t announce the arrival of the slugger, but he played in both games against the Mainz Athletics this weekend. He is most likely a short-term replacement for James Kang, who suffered a fractured hand and will miss at least six weeks due to the injury. Smith batted .473/.559/.914 with nine home runs, two triples, ten doubles, 31 runs and 35 RBI in just 23 games for Heidenheim last season.
