The Seattle Mariners called up Italian third baseman Alex Liddi for the first time this season. The 24-year-old was batting .267 with nine home runs and 37 RBI in 50 games at Triple-A this year. He didn’t play against the San Diego Padres on Wednesday, but should see some playing time, as the Mariners are shaking up their roster. Jesus Montero and Dustin Ackley have been sent down. Robert Andino was designated for assignment. Besides Liddi the club also called up Jesus Sucre and infielders Carlos Triunfel and Nick Franklin in the last couple of days. The Italian maybe even gets used in the outfield.
