Baseball-Bundesliga: Bad Homburg earns split against Heidekoepfe behind Spenser Payne’s 3 HRs

Posted on May 26, 2013 by philipp

The German Baseball-Bundesliga was hindered by a heavy dose of rain this weekend. In the north just one of the six planned games was played. The Bonn Capitals celebrated a 6-2 win on the road against the Dortmund Wanderers. BJ Roper-Hubbert hit a two-run home run.

The Wanderers had to forfeit game two due to a player shortage, giving Bonn a 9-0 victory. One day later the club revealed that they have to terminate the contract with Danny Forte in two weeks due to losing a sponsor. Not good times for Baseball in Dortmund.

The doubleheaders between the HSV Stealers and Berlin Sluggers, as well as the Cologne Cardinals and the Dohren Wild Farmers got postponed due to heavy rain.

In the south the Bad Homburg Hornets managed a split against the Heidenheim Heidekoepfe. In game one Heidenheim prevailed 8-2 thanks to a home run and three RBI by Simon Guehring. Johannes Krumm threw another solid start.

In the second match Elliot Glynn issued just four hits and six walks in a complete game shutout, leading Bad Homburg to a 2-0 victory. Spenser Payne, who already had two home runs in game one, and Kyle Waddell went deep. Jack Frawley took the loss in the pitcher’s duel.

At the top of the standings the Mainz Athletics recovered from Friday’s 0-5 loss and got the split with a 6-1 rain-shortened victory on Saturday over the Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg. The A’s scored four times in the first. Kevin Kotowski had two hits and a double, while Pat Haugen stifled the Regensburg offense.

The Haar Disciples solidified their spot in the top four with a sweep over the Tubingen Hawks. In game one Josh Petersen and Michael Stephan combined for three extra base hits and six RBI to lead Haar to a 9-1 win. Lorenzo Dadynoel scored four times. Lukas Steinlein struck out eight in seven strong innings for the win. In the second game Brian Fields out-dueled Joshua Hodges to give the Disciples a 5-3 victory. Haar overcame a 0-3 deficit with four runs in the sixth.
