Italian Baseball League: Nettuno stuns Rimini on Saturday

Five games were played in the Italian Baseball League on Saturday. Nettuno stunned Rimini with a doubleheader sweep. In game one in the afternoon Nettuno scored twice in the seventh inning to break a 2-2 tie en route to a 4-3 victory. Paolino Ambrosino and Alessandro Grimaudo had the decisive hits. Alex Romero homered for the Pirates. Milvio Andreozzi got the win with five strong innings of relief. Enorbel Marquez-Ramirez, who replaced Yorman Bazardo in the fourth, took the loss.

In game two Riccardo De Santis pitched a complete game shutout to lead Nettuno to a 6-0 win. He gave up just five hits and a walk in nine innings. His offense scored all six runs in the sixth. Vinicio Sparanga drove in two of them. Roberto Corradini conceded eight hits and six runs in 5 2/3 frames to get charged with the loss.

In the matchup between Unipol Bologna and T&A San Marino, the Titans had the better ending on Saturday. San Marino won 5-1. Jim Magrane, Chris Cooper and Darwin Cubilan kept Bologna to four hits through nine innings. Wuilliuans Vasquez and Carlos Duran combined for four RBI. Matteo D’Angelo issued six hits, four runs (2 ER) and a walk in 4 1/3 innings for the loss.

Palfinger Reggio Emilia celebrated a 4-3 win over Mastiff Toshiba Grosseto. Alessandro Bertoli and Simone Quintavalla drove in the winning runs in the top of the ninth. Mastiff tried to counter in the bottom half, but only managed a run on a groundout by Francesco Di Mattia. Nibaldo Acosta gave up two hits, a run and a walk in 3 1/3 innings of relief to pick up the win. Roman Garcia took the loss.

Parma edged out Novara 5-1 in a rain-shortened six-inning affair. Jose Sanchez allowed four hits, a run and two walks in six innings, striking out seven. Angel Calero punched out 12, but still gave up five hits, five runs and five bb in six frames for the loss. Osman Marval had two hits, a run and a RBI.
