Preview: Belgian First Division kicks off 2013 Season

Posted on April 12, 2013April 12, 2013 by philipp

The Belgian First Division is entering the 2013 season this weekend, opening a new chapter. No longer single games will be played at 3.30pm each Saturday and Sunday from April to September. Instead doubleheaders are getting introduced to reduce the number of game days while keeping the total amount of games. Nonetheless not all teams agree on this matter and it will be a mix between both formats.

However this isn’t even the most important change this year. The Belgian First Division will start the season without its reigning champion. The Hoboken Pioneers withdraw from the competition last fall. Additionally the Antwerp Eagles are no longer playing in the First Division following a last-place finish in 2012. LLN Phoenix is new in the league as is the Belgian Baseball Academy, which will basically play out of competition.

Schedule:
Saturday, April 13, 2013:
12:30 Namur Angels – LLN Phoenix (DH)
12:30 Brasschaat Braves – Deurne Spartans (DH)
15:30 Borgerhout Squirrels – Mortsel Stars
Sunday, April 14, 2013:
12:30 Royal Greys – Belgian Academy
15:30 Mortsel Stars – Borgerhout Squirrels
