After their winning streak was snapped on Wednesday, the ORKAS also lost on Thursday. The CARIBES used an eight-run second period en route to a 13-9 victory. The BBC tried to come back and scored in six of the first seven innings, but another four runs by the CARIBES in the sixth gave them some more cushion.
Gerson Manzanillo (4-5, 3 runs), Walter Correa (2-5, 2 runs, 2 RBI) and Ricky Thomas (3 RBI) homered for the ORKAS. DH Bryon Bell walked twice and scored a run. Zair Koeiman went hitless in two at bats, playing left field. CARIBES catcher Jose Gil connected for two homeruns in the second inning, scored a total of three times and drove in three. George Matheus had two hits and three RBIs.
Kevin Alarcon (L 2-1) got the starting nod for the ORKAS. But it was a horrible outing for him, as he was charged with eight runs on ten hits and a walk in 1 2/3 innings. Jurjen Van Zijl relieved him and held the CARIBES scoreless for three innings. But in the sixth he loaded the bases with no outs and all three runners came home, as relievers Jesus Perez and Gustavo Suecum could not escape the difficult situation. Van Zijl allowed four hits, three runs and a walk in 3 1/3 innings, striking out none. His ERA for the year climbed to 2.38.
The ORKAS are taking on the NEW YORK METS on Friday, before starting November with a matchup against the BRAVOS. They have another off day on Sunday.
