After one year pitching in the Italian Baseball League, Czech right-hander Boris Bokaj is returning to the Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg. The 26-year-old Ostrava native pitched in 11 games for Grosseto in the IBL last season with an ERA of 5.20. During the European Championship he threw a shutout in Czech Republic’s win over France. He also was a member of the Czech team at the World Baseball Classic Qualifier in Regensburg, but didn’t play. Bokaj appeared in 37 games for the Buchbinder Legionaere in 2010 and 2011 with an ERA of 2.47 in 167 innings.
The reigning German champion also revealed in the press release that Philipp Hoffschild might be an option for the 2013 pitching staff after all. The 29-year-old veteran expects to stay in Regensburg and is currently able to participate in team practices. Meanwhile Dominik Hartinger, who came to Regensburg from Gauting last winter, is in the United States for work-related reasons and will apparently miss preseason training camp. He doesn’t know yet if he will stay since he didn’t saw much playing time last season.
