Netherlands with Shutout against China on way to Taiwan

Posted on February 20, 2013 by philipp

The Netherlands concluded their training camp in Scottsdale, Arizona with an 8-0 shutout over China, their third win in the third game over their fellow World Baseball Classic opponent. Pitchers Rob Cordemans, David Bergman, Wendell Floranus, Leon Boyd, Mark Pawelek and Loek van Mil issued just four hits through nine scoreless innings. Nick Urbanus, Danny Rombley and Hainley Statia had two hits apiece.

With the victory the Dutch team improved to 5-1 during training camp. A couple more exhibition games are planned for Taiwan, including an encounter with Cuba on Sunday. The first round of the WBC starts on March 2.

Meanwhile Dutch media reports that nine Hoofdklasse players are on the final Dutch roster. Michael Duursma, Bas Nooij, Dwayne Kemp, Rob Cordemans, David Bergman, Berry van Driel, Kevin Heijstek, Diegomar Markwell and Orlando Yntema apparently will make the cut. Final roster have to be submitted by today. An official announcement is expected within the next couple of days.
