Posted on October 28, 2008 by philipp

The ALB ORKAS continue to win in the Venezuelan Liga Paralela. They overcame a 1-5-deficit on Sunday to beat the CARIBES 9-5. One day later they used a five-run seventh to defeat the DETROIT TIGERS. The ORKAS are now 9-2 and in first position in the standings after eight straight victories.

The ORKAS rallied in the match against the CARIBES to turn a 1-5-disadvantage into a 9-5 win. ANZOATEGUI took a 5-1 lead in the bottom of third behind a grand slam by Billy Rojo, who homered against ALB starter Yulman Ribeiro. But the BBC wasn’t shocked, as they could tie the contest through four runs in the fifth. With the score even at 5 the game went into the ninth, when the offense of the ORKAS exploded again and put four runs on the board.

Walter Correa and Emilio Linarez (3-5, 2 RBI) hit homeruns for the European squad. Bryon Bell drove in two with a single. Israel Diaz went one for three with three RBIs. Four players scored twice. Ribeiro pitched three innings in his start, allowing four hits, five runs and a three base on balls. The new pitcher for the KONICA MINOLTA PIONIERS, Shane Gnade (W 1-0), picked up his first win with 1 2/3 scoreless innings of one-hit relief.

Visbsen Sytse had one hit in two at bats. Koeiman Zair, Ricky Thomas and Daniel Bittar also appeared in the game, but remained hitless.

The ORKAS again were on the road on Monday, when they held down the TIGERS affiliate 8-3. DETROIT overcame a 0-3 deficit, when they tied the game in the bottom of the sixth. But the answer by the BBC came right away. They scored five runs in the top of the seventh to seal the victory.

Bryan Bell went two for four with a homerun, a double, two runs scored and three RBIs. Edison Martinez had a two-run double. Emilio Linarez scored twice. Zair Koeiman pinch hit for left fielder Jose Aponte and worked a walk. Daniel Bittar, Visbsen Sytse, Ricky Thomas and Stefan Hoogewerff also appeared in the game.

Carlos Farias started and gave up three hits, one run and four bb in five innings. Wilmer Alvarez (W 1-0) blew the lead, but picked up the win anyway for his two rocky innings of relief. Brian Sewell induced four groundouts to pitch 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.

The ORKAS face the PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES on Tuesday and LEONES on Wednesday.
