The Therwil Flyers of the Swiss Nationalliga A introduced their new foreign pitcher on Tuesday. The 28-year-old right-handed pitcher Josh Tamba, who also bats decently from the left side, is coming from the Cologne Cardinals in the German Baseball-Bundesliga. He spent three years in the Baltimore Orioles organization between 2006 and 2008 after getting drafted in the 7th round.
Last year Tamba went 4-7 with an ERA of 3.74 in 13 games (12 starts) for Cologne. He struck out 110 batters in just 79 1/3 innings, walking 45. At the plate he batted .379/.468/.579 with three home runs, three triples, four doubles, 27 runs and 16 RBI in 26 games. With Therwil he is also going to assist new head coach Andy Fleischacker on the coaching staff.
