After getting not tendered a contract for the 2013 season by the Atlanta Braves, right-handed pitcher Jair Jurrjens has found a new employer. He signed a Major League contract with the Baltimore Orioles with a base salary of $1.5 million and can receive up to $4 million with incentives. The 26-year-old, who participated in the 2011 MLB All Star Game, had a rough 2012 season. He went 3-4 with an ERA of 6.89 in 11 games (10 starts) at the Major League level. At Triple-A he was not much better, going 4-6 with an ERA of 4.98 in 14 starts.
Overall however Jurrjens has a good track record in the big leagues with a career ERA of 3.62 in 126 games (125 starts). He made his Major League debut for the Detroit Tigers in 2007, but got traded to the Braves prior to the 2008 season. He has been on the roster of the Netherlands for the 2013 World Baseball Classic. If his status will change due to the new contract remains to be seen. He wouldn’t be the first the MLB player to do so.
