Mainz Athletics lose key players

Posted on December 5, 2012 by philipp

The Mainz Athletics announced on Tuesday that they have to revamp their roster during the winter. US American imports Dennis Kelly and Pat Haugen will not return to the club for the 2013 season. Haugen is staying in the United States due to elbow problems and family reasons. The departure of Kelly was unexpected who also was coaching the second division team and worked with the Rhein Main Baseball Academy. Also Swedish outfielder Peter Johannessen is probably not returning to the A’s.

Additionally a couple of German players won’t be available for the team of head coach Ulli Wermuth. Pitching prospect Max Doll will join Baseball-Bundesliga rival Bad Homburg Hornets. Apparently he got the guarantee to be the starting pitcher in game one each week. Alexander Szalay and Martin Kipphan will retire. Szalay will remain with the team as first base coach.
