A coach on the rise in German baseball, Ulli took over the head coach duties in Mainz in 2011, bringing back the Athletics in the play-offs and did it again this year in a tough division. In Mulhouse, the 2011 EBCA Coach of the Year nominee will discuss practice planning and outfield play.
Ulli Wermuth – Mainz Athletics / German Baseball Academy
At only 31 years of age, Wermuth has already build up an impressive resume with a wide panel of baseball experiences.
As a player, Wermuth played for the German junior National team from 1997 to 1999 and in the German Bundesliga from 1999 to 2007.
During his playing days, he took part to 4 championships. One U15, 2 times U18 and a Bundesliga title.
From 2003 to 2006, he played College baseball at Whittier, California, a NCAA D3 program.
As a coach, he has led various selection teams in the Mainz region since 2008. He is the head coach of the Rhine – Mainz baseball Academy that he started last year.
In 2008, he also became an assistant coach on the German Baseball Academy which led him to have multiple experiences with the German National U18 team.
Since 2011, he took over as the head coach from Mainz Athletics, taking a rejuvenated team to back to back post-season appearances.
In 2011, Wermuth was one of the 5 finalists for the EBCA Coach of the Year Award that was ultimately won by World Champion Brian Farley.
Ulli’s brother, Peter, is the CEO of the Australian Baseball League.
