Posted on October 1, 2012 by philipp

The Vienna Wanderers are one win away from winning the championship in the Austrian Baseball League. This weekend they won games one and two of the best-of-five final series against the Diving Ducks Vienna Neustadt. In game one on Saturday the Wanderers scored five runs in the eighth to take a commanding lead en route to an 8-4 win. Felix Zimmerle struck out Jason Wall in the ninth with the bases loaded to end the game. Max Scholdan hit a homerun earlier in the game.

On Sunday there was no drama, as the Wanderers cruised to a 9-2 victory. Three runs in the third got them in front; five more combined in the fifth and sixth blew the game open. The Diving Ducks defense helped with six errors. Hiro Sakanashi went 4-for-5 with three runs and two RBI. Joseph Wilson pitched a complete game and drove in three at the plate. Ryan Kroko struck out ten and didn’t walk a batter in nine innings, but still ended up with the loss, having issued nine runs (4 ER) on nine hits.
