Recaps: Therwil Flyers crush Embrach Mustangs to move into 2nd in Swiss NLA

Game 1

The Flyers hosted the Embrach Mustangs this past weekend, with Second place up for grabs. Both teams not only had to battle each other, but the elements, as it was not exactly baseball weather Saturday. The start of the first game was delayed about 30 minutes, due to rain, but eventually the field was made playable.

Once the game began the flyers jumped out to an early lead in the third inning thanks to Daniel Eichenberger’s 3 run homerun. In the next frame the Flyers continued to hit Roger Savoldelli hard as they scored 5 runs in the 4th inning. Ty Eriksen reached base twice in the 4th as the Flyers were able to bat around the line-up with 7 batters able to reach base that inning. The Flyers were able to tack on 2 more runs in the 7th and 4 runs in the 8th to make the score 14-4 and end the game by mercy- rule.

Stefan Koller was able to keep the Mustangs at bay for 7 innings, and Adrian Kaufmann came on in the 8th to shut the door.

Game 2

There was much build up around game 2, because the Flyers would be facing Mustang pitcher Tim Jones, a lefty, who had given The Flyers a lot of trouble in their previous match up. Although, he wasn’t as sharp as in their previous encounter, Jones was still able to keep the Flyers in check for the first 5 innings. The flyers were, however, able to put together another 5 run inning in the 6th that proved to be a back breaker for the Mustangs. Walks and Errors proved to be too much to overcome as the Flyers took game two 12-5. Ianis Bouteloup, Ty Eriksen, Bradley Roper-Hubbert, and Chris Blackbee were all able to collect multiple hits against the Lefty.

Looking forward to this weekend, The Flyers will face the Zurich Lions on the road Friday, then turn right around and host the Luzern Eagles the following Sunday.
