Preview: Quarterfinals start in German Baseball-Bundesliga

Posted on July 13, 2012July 12, 2012 by philipp

The postseason in German Baseball starts this weekend. The playoffs get underway with the quarterfinals. The matchups are quite familiar. Regular season winners Untouchables Paderborn and Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg will travel to the Haar Disciples, respective HSV Stealers as heavy favorites. The other two matchups between the Bonn Capitals and Heidenheim Heidekoepfe as well as Mainz Athletics and Solingen Alligators should turn out to be more electrifying. The first two games of the best-of-five series will be played at the lower seeds.

Schedule Playoffs:
Saturday, July 14:
13:00 Haar – Paderborn (DH)
13:00 Hamburg – Regensburg (DH)
13:00 Bonn – Heidenheim (DH)
13:00 Mainz – Solingen (DH)

In the playdowns there was a format change. In the north – similar to the Dutch Hoofdklasse – teams have to defend their spots in the Baseball-Bundesliga in relegation series. With this the Berlin Sluggers, who are looking at a 26-game losing streak, still have the opportunity to remain in Germany’s top division. In the south the three teams from Mannheim, Stuttgart and Bad Homburg will play a round robin without keeping the wins and losses from the regular season.

Schedule Playdowns:
Saturday, July 14:
13:00 Berlin – Dortmund (DH)
13:00 Dohren – Cologne (DH)
13:00 Stuttgart – Mannheim (DH)
