Weather and poor play end Season for 1st Place Flyers

FLYERS SUCCUMB TO INDIANS; WEATHER AND POOR PLAY SPELL THE END OF THE SEASON FOR 1st PLACE TEAM!
On a wet and windy day, the Flyers were forced to travel to Lausanne after Saturdays game was canceled due to weather. The rainout rule pushed the game originally scheduled in Therwil, to a doubleheader in Lausanne. The Flyers started game one with zero runs in the first due to great Indian defense. The same was not the case for the Indians, as they started the game in style scoring three times in the opening frame. Stefan Koller, the starting pitcher for the Flyers, would then settle in for the next three innings, allowing no more runs in that time. Meanwhile the Flyers offense came alive in the fifth, plating five runners and taking a 6-3 advantage! With momentum on their side, the Flyers took that lead into the seventh inning when the wheels fell off, ten Indians crossed homeplate thanks to two doubles and two homeruns. This pretty much ended the chances for Therwil who fought valiantly to comeback, but fell short with the tying run at the plate in the form of player/coach John Alexander. The final score of game one… 14-11 Indians.

In game two the Indians sent the winner of game one Nicolas Jaquemet to the hill; the Flyers, started the recently roughed up in game one Chris Blackbee. The Therwil ballclub once again went out to an early lead, holding a 2-0 advantage into the third. Unfortunately for them, that would be their last lead of the season, as the Indians would benefit from a strong wind blowing to left, hitting homeruns in the inning to take charge at 5-2. The Indians meanwhile would tack on four more runs and were ahead 9-2 going into the seventh. Three Flyer runs in that inning would not end up being enough, as the Therwil season would come to an end with a score of 9-5.

The Indians, competing in their first ever playoff series, qualify for the final where they will meet either the three-time defending champs, the Bern Cardinals, or the Zurich Barracudas. Due to rainouts last weekend, and the Cardinals participation in the “A” pool qualifier in Antwerp, the series will begin the 27th of September with game one in Bern.
