Posted on June 11, 2012 by philipp

South:

Mannheim Tornados – Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg 11-10

The Mannheim Tornados answered the 0-9 shutout loss to the Buchbinder Legionaere on Friday with an 11-10 walk-off win on Saturday. Erasing a 1-6 deficit and blowing a 10-6 lead in the process, Mannheim prevailed thanks to a walk-off RBI single by Jonathan Wagner in the bottom of the ninth. Jeff Beachum collected three hits and four RBI. Rodney Gessmann went deep for Regensburg.

The games between the Heidenheim Heidekoepfe and Haar Disciples were postponed after heavy rain had made the field unplayable in Munich on Friday evening.

North:

Berlin Sluggers – Solingen Alligators 0-31 (7), 1-12 (7)

The Solingen Alligators did some stats padding on the expense of the helpless Berlin Sluggers on Saturday. The German champion from 2006 scored 12 runs apiece in the first and the fifth of a historical 31-0 blowout in game one. Travis Bass collected six hits, five runs and five RBI. Dustin Hughes hit two homeruns and drove in six. Florian Goetze crossed the plate six times. Andre Hughes cruised to the win. In game two Dominik Wulf homered as part of a four-hit contest, leading Solingen to a 12-1 victory. Alligators coach Norman Eberhardt told a local newspaper after the game that he thinks the Sluggers aren’t representing German baseball in a positive way. They wouldn’t maintain the field, there is no stadium announcer and overall everything is not worthy for a Bundesliga team. So, the first-year coach in a sidebar.

Dohren Wild Farmers – Untouchables Paderborn 9-10 (11), 2-3

The Untouchables Paderborn had some European Cup blues, but still managed to win twice on the road against the Dohren Wild Farmers. In game one the U’s needed a 10-9 win in 11 innings thanks to a bases loaded walk by Daniel Hinz in the second extra inning. Bjoern Schonlau hit a homerun for Paderborn. Jannis Wedemeyer and Jeff Rustico combined for four RBI for Dohren, which overcame a 2-9 victory during the game, scoring six runs in the eighth. In game two the Untouchables scored three runs in the ninth to decide a pitcher’s duel between Brian Fields and Mat Keplinger. The American hurlers combined for 23 strikeouts in 18 six-hit innings. In the ninth first baseman Tobias Fischer dropped a flyball with two outs, allowing two runners to score.

Cologne Cardinals – HSV Stealers 11-5, 0-2, 0-7

The HSV Stealers and Cologne Cardinals met for three games on Sunday. In game one the Cardinals prevailed 11-5 in the continuation of an April matchup, which had been suspended in the eighth inning due to lack of light at the ballpark in Hamburg. Afterwards the HSV pitchers took over. Brent Buffa and Antonio Peraza (16 strikeouts) pitched complete game shutouts to lead the Stealers to 2-0 and 7-0 wins. Hamburg sits at 10-10 in fifth place now, one game behind the Wanderers.

Bonn Capitals – Dortmund Wanderers 12-2 (7), 4-5

The Bonn Capitals lost a game towards the Untouchables and Alligators at the top of the northern standings following a split against fourth-ranked Dortmund Wanderers. In game one Bonn used a seven-run second to crush Dortmund 12-2 in seven innings. Lennart Weller, Daniel Lamb-Hunt and Vincent Ahrens combined for six RBI. In the second match the Wanderers overcame an early deficit, scored three runs in the ninth for a 5-4 comeback win. Trevor Howell and Elliot Biddle hit homeruns. The latter also scored the winning run following a double.
