The visiting Mustangs beat an improving Lions team 17-4 in game one and 12 – 0 in the nightcap. The Mustangs improved their record at the Zurich Heerenschurli ball park to 13 wins out of 14 games since it opened in 2010.
In game one the Mustangs were led again by great pitching, Roger Savoldelli pitched 8 strong innings allowing only 4 runs and striking out 5 batters in gaining his third win of the season. The Mustangs were strong out of the gate scoring 3 runs in the first inning and never looked back the rest of the day. The offense was lead by Harry Wischnewski who had three walks, three hits and scored five times. Bruno Albrecht also scored four times in the game drawing four walks. Christian Klarer contributed five RBI’s in the game with a double and single in the game. Chris Hutchinson added a double with the bases loaded for three RBI’s. Defensively the Mustangs did not commit any errors in the game and Harry Wischnewski produced another web gem sliding catch from his center field station, that makes a total of seven for the season for Wischnewski.
In game two the Mustangs were paced by the strong pitching effort from Texan Tim Jones who recorded a shutout. Jones pitched 7 innings allowing only two hits and striking out 13 batters while gaining his third victory in Switzerland. Offensively the Mustangs were led by their Canadian slugger Casey Auerbach who went a perfect 5 for 5 at the plate with seven RBI’s. Korey Kovac also chipped in with two clutch singles for 2 RBI’s on the day.
The Lions drop to 1 – 7 on the season but look to be a much better team than their record indicates as they are playing much better defensively and they are getting good pitching efforts from Andre Eugster and LJ Aguinaga this season. The Lions were led offensively by Markus Streicher , Hanil Novas and Benitez Mateo who each had two hits on the day.
