Just four games of eight were played in the Hoofdklasse this weekend with a fifth being stopped by the Umpiring crew. DOOR Neptunus and Corendon Kinheim split their weekend series. Kinheim won the Saturday affair 2-1 behind another strong performance of American starter Luke Sommer. Mervin Gario reached base four times and scored both runs for the club from Haarlem. On Sunday Neptunus prevailed 7-1, as five pitchers from Rotterdam held Kinheim to a run.
In the other matchups the AamigoO ADO Lakers lost 2-7 to UVV on Sunday thanks to six solid innings of national team pitcher Orlando Yntema. Joey Evans struck out nine in 8 2/3 innings to lead the Vaessen Pioniers to a 6-1 victory over defending champion L&D Amsterdam. They scored all six runs in the first four innings for an early advantage.
The duel between Sparta/Feyenoord Rotterdam and Mr. Cocker HCAW was stopped by the umpiring crew in the seventh inning with HCAW leading 6-3. Apparently a small portion of the Rotterdam crowd at the stadium heckled the umpires throughout the game. In the sixth inning they stopped play for 15 minutes, trying to cool off the audience without much success. One inning later they had enough.
