Charley Olson struck out 12 in a complete game.
Solingen Alligators – HSV Stealers 17-9, 11-0
The Solingen Alligators swept the HSV Stealers on Saturday. The Alligators nearly got burned in the game one, using Sebastian Bernards as starter instead of Andre Hughes. But Solingen eventually out-slugged the guests from Hamburg 17-9. Travis Bass and Dustin Hughes hit homeruns. In game two the Alligators used eight runs in eighth to win 11-0. Robin Drache and again Dustin Hughes homered. Shelby Robertson struck out seven in a four-hit shutout.
Dortmund Wanderers – Berlin Sluggers 10-0, 17-15
The Dortmund Wanderers got into the win column, sweeping the Berlin Sluggers. Game one was quickly in the books, as Dennis Stechmann led Dortmund to a 10-0 shutout in seven innings. Aljosha Heller hit a homerun and scored three times. Game two looked the same early on, but the Sluggers fought back, turning the contest into a slugfest, which featured 32 runs, 27 hits, 20 walks, 5 errors and seven different pitchers. The Wanderers prevailed 17-15 in the end. Trevor Howell hit a homerun and drove in four. Benji Kleiner had four hits and four RBI for Berlin.
Cologne Cardinals – Untouchables Paderborn postponed
Rain denied the duel between the undefeated Cologne Cardinals and last year’s north champion Untouchables Paderborn.
South:
Stuttgart Reds – Mainz Athletics 4-7, 1-3
The Mainz Athletics twice scored early to win twice over the Stuttgart Reds on Saturday. In game one Mike Larson homered, while Max Boldt collected three hits in a 7-4 A’s win. Tim Stahlmann struck out five in 3 1/3 innings of brilliant one-hit relief. Hagen Raetz hit a two-run shot for Stuttgart. In the second game of the twin bill, Pat Haugen out-dueled Richard Olson in a 3-1 victory for Mainz. Martin Matlacki hit a solo homerun and drove in two.
Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg – Bad Homburg Hornets 16-2 (7), 11-1 (6)
Celebrating their 25th anniversary and their 600th game in the Baseball-Bundesliga, the Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg donned 1987 jerseys, routing the Bad Homburg Hornets on Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon. In game one they scored in each of the first six innings on their way to a 16-2 blowout. Matt Vance and Ludwig Glaser combined for six RBI. Mike Bolsenbroek struck out eight in 3 1/3 innings. In the second game Regensburg scored six in the second frame of an 11-1 win in six innings. The game was called in the sixth after Bad Homburg had not enough players due to a pair of ejections. Therefore the result probably will be transferred into a 9-0 forfeit win. Justin Kuehn collected nine Ks in four scoreless no-hit innings. Petr Cech had three hits, three runs and three RBI.
Mannheim Tornados – Haar Disciples 9-8, 4-7
The Mannheim Tornados and Haar Disciples split a pair of game on Monday afternoon. In game one Mannheim blew a 6-2 advantage, but still managed to prevail 9-8 behind a bases loaded Matthias Schmitt walk in the bottom of the ninth. Sascha Lutz had three RBI for the Tornados, Christoph Ziegler for Haar. In the second game Josh Petersen and Johannes Jung hit back-to-back homeruns for the Disciples in a 7-4 guest’s win. Ziegler had four hits this time. Nick Renault struck out seven in a complete game win. Matt Kemp lost his southern debut. Jordan Dyer and Marvin Appiah went deep for Mannheim.
