Natasha Watley broke up a scoreless tie in the fifth with a RBI single, which was followed by a two-run shot by Crystl Bustos one frame later to seal the 3-0 victory against Australia.

Tanya Harding (L 0-1) did a good job in the beginning, but lost in the end anyway. She gave up four hits, three runs and three walks in five-plus innings.

Hiroko Sakai (W 1-0) allowed six hits and a run in a complete game victory. She struck out six. Sheng-Jung Lai (L 0-1) was charged with seven hits, two runs and two bb in 4 2/3 innings.
